Purpose:

The Temple exists to support the growth of consciousness.  One of the most profound experiences of growth is a “full release”.  Different spiritual teachings call this experience awakening, samadhi, nirvana, the void, …  It is a complete release from the restriction of egoic separation and a direct experience of the infinite.

The priority here is supporting those who have a committed spiritual practice and have the intention to do whatever it takes to be liberated from the egoic illusions and experience their true essence or divinity.  The practices at the Temple are intended to be an aid to your ongoing practice.

The Temple is aligned with the teachings of Kashmiri Shivism, an advaitic non-dual path that holds everything and each moment as a manifestation of the divine.  It is a philosophy often associated with transpersonal psychology, and also incorporates some unorthodox practices.

Spiritual Cross Training:

While it is important to have a primary mindfulness practice, it can be productive to supplement that practice.  Other practices can complement the benefits provided by our primary practice and support a more efficient, wholistic development.  See the article on Spiritual Cross Training for more details.

Healing vs. Expansion:

The overall effect of a specific practice can include both healing and expansion, however, it is important to be clear on the primary purpose, as it will dictate the optimal environment or setting.  If healing is the primary purpose, safety and clear boundaries are important.  If it is expansion, the focus is on pushing past boundaries and previous limitations.  And, the individual needs to be more resourced.  See the article on the symptom of unhealed trauma for more information.
